email threat

what is the recourse when a threat is made via email, blog, etc.? It includes killing somebody.

You have many options. The threat of physical harm, especially death threats, via e-mail or online, is a violation of many state and federal statutes and is a criminal offense.

I recommend you start by contacting your local police department and file a complaint. Take with you a copy of the email message or a printout of the web site containing the threat.

Then contact the local prosecutor's office to set up a meeting and determine whether the particular communication satisfies the statutory requirements of a threat actionable under state and/or federal statutes.
