Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Vermont

Mechanics Lien

Man quitclaims ownership of home to his children and life estate to wife. He enters into contract to have work done on house. Man passes before work on house is paid in full and leaves ALL monies to wife to pay bills. Wife refuses to pay bill. Are the children responsible for bill and can contractor file a mechanics lien and possibly foreclosure action on property they own? What other options are there? What responsibility does the wife that has all the money have?

Re: Mechanics Lien

I would need to see the written contract involved, but it certainly sounds like the lien will attached and could be foreclosed. How much is at stake? Why is W declining to pay?
