Legal Question in Criminal Law in Vermont
domestic violence
My ex-husband showed at my home to pick up our son. We verbally argued, he hit me and bruised my arm. I hit back. I tore his shirt. He left after 3 requests from my current husband. I reported it to police, as did he. I was advised by police that we would probably both have criminal charges. Trooper took pictures of my bruise and mark on my neck, but also of my face and hands (?). Should I be worried and do I have any llegal leg to stand on?

Re: domestic violence
Given what you say, you basically have substantial evidence that you were physically abused by your ex! & the fact that the whole issue occured at your house does put you in a better stand than his as it does allow you to ask for a restraining order against him since he is the one who supposedly provoked the whole situation by his appearance at your door step!
Of course, other evidence can be brought up should this reach court, like whether his injury was worse than yours, whether you had anything to do to provoke this situation, etc...& other issues that should be assessed by the lawyer who handles the file.
