Legal Question in Family Law in Vermont

Civil Union in VT- how to divorce-I live in NY

Okay, my partner and I (foolishly) had a civil union in May 08. It is now Dec 08. We recently split up and I am wondering how A) this will affect me in the future as far as re-marrying in NYS or elsewhere, and B) How this will affect me with credit issues etc (ie: if she applies for credit, are we viewed as a married couple? Liability to that?)

Luckily, there was no property to split up (cars were in each of our names separately and the house is in my name and she moved out already).

Lastly, I realize I would have to live in VT (I know she won't) for 6 mos to 1 year to apply for a divorce, as I understand it. Is there ANY way around this? It's only been 7 months since this foolish mistake- is there any way to annul this or dissolve it without moving to VT for that long?

I presume you mean that that the two of you were married as husband and wife.

As such, you can start the action in New York, where your residence is, after a period of time.

I would need more information to help answer the question
