Legal Question in Family Law in Vermont

Dissolution of a Civil Union

My spouse & I had a Civil Union Ceremony in Vermont in 2002. We are separated. If I want to get legally married in Illinois and the dissolution was not recorded, can I get marrried? Vermont requires one of the parties to live in Vermont for 6 mos. and have lived there 1 year before the final hearing. I am not moving as I didn't leave the relationship.

Re: Dissolution of a Civil Union

Hello. Since you are now a resident of Illinois,

I suggests that you file for divorce in Illinois.

Will be happy to answer any additional questions

you might have. Under these circumstances, the

State of Illinois proceedings will be more

favorable to you, in my opinion.
