Legal Question in Family Law in Vermont

He walked out, do I have to allow him back in the house?

My husband of 15 years walked out, didn't say goodbye to our three children, didn't leave a note. He moved back to NJ. He wants to come back to the house any time he feels like it ( to get belongings, see the children, etc.) and I told him he can't, that he needs to call first.

He is saying it is still his house and that he may enter it at any time. He is an alcoholic, verbally obnoxious at times, and accusing me of assaulting him. Do I have to allow him in this house, and how do I go about getting child support in the meantime? He quit his job to go back to NJ and we now have no health insurance to boot. Thanks for your help!

Sorry to hear about your situation. To keep your husband out of the house,

you should go to the Family Court in your county and obtain a relief from abuse order which forbid him from coming to the house without your permission. You should also consider if you want to file for divorce and ask the court for some temporary maintenance for yourself and child support for the children.

You should be aware, however, that obtaining support orders and collecting on them are two different things..

Good Luck.
