Immigration law in connection with new ruling of "Civil Union" same sex marriage

Considering the new law about equality among Man and Woman unions and same sex marriage (civil union) Does this new law cover immigration? My lover is an illegal resident of the country and I want to marry him. Please help us out.

Immigration is a subject covered by federal law, which still does not recognize same sex marriage. Therefore, the fact that Vermont recognizes such marriages will not help your lover obtains his papers once he becomes your spouse.
