Legal Question in Employment Law in Vermont

1099 Forms

I have worked as an athletic trainer for a school, part-time, for 9 years. At the end of this past year I was told I was being given a 1099. I have never received one before and now I have $9000 extra income to file on my taxes, which I have not paid taxes on because I didn't know until the end of the year that I was being given this form. Should I have been told about this form earlier, so I had the opportunity to pay taxes? Shouldn't employers have to notify people earlier than at the END of a year?

Re: 1099 Forms

Was there a written contract? What about your paychecks? Deductions for taxes, FICA, SS etc.??

If not, were you issued a W-4 when hired?
