Legal Question in Employment Law in Vermont

New Employer Closing Practice

I am an RN who left a school nurse position of over 7 years to work at a small private practice. After just 6 weeks at my new job, the Dr announced her family had bought a home out of state therefore the practice would be closing if she couldnt find a dr to buy the practice - she did not and now I will be forced to find another job. I will have worked a total of 7months at this practice. I never would have left my old job (had to break the contract) if I had any idea this would occur. Do I have any right to a severance equivalent to the remaining year's salary at least?

I would want to see your written employment agreement top advise.

If NONE, you are likely an "at will" employee, meaning that you could quit anytime, or be fired any time, without notice.
