When does an attorney's fiduciary responsibility to client end?

My mother passed away this year. A legal matter has come up around an inheritance issue generated about 8 years ago.The attorney she had then has since left the law firm and moved to another state maintaining another office in the former state. I want to be able to talk to him. Is he free to share with me information about this situation now or is is still bound by some sort of fiduciary relationship not to talk to me about this situation? Does fiduciary responsibility differ from state to state? When does a fiduciary obligation end between a client and a lawyer?

He is under no obligation to discuss the matter with anyone other than his client. If it is something that qualifies as a client�s secret he is not allowed to reveal it, ever. Whether he will or not depends largely on the type of information you are looking for. Each state has its own ethics rules. They vary somewhat but not much.
