Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Vermont

Can I Look For A New Lawyer?

I signed an agreement to have a local lawyer

represent me in an auto accident claim. I don't

feel he's handling my claim as it should be

handled. Is it legal for me to ''fire'' him as my

lawyer so I can go to someone else? Are there

any penalties/fees if I do this?

Re: Can I Look For A New Lawyer?

You may fire him. You will owe him for the hours he has invested in your case until now at his usual hourly rate, plus any costs/expenses he has advanced on your behalf.

I recommend you approach him straight up and resolve the issue in as friendly a manner as you can.

If you have found a new lawyer you can ask him to assist you if you think you need it.
