Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Vermont

Unbuildable property

Thirty-three years ago, my late husband and I viewed a model home in the mountains and bought one of the parcels offered;paid clubhouse fees and taxes on the empty lot ever since. This summer I had a perc test done and found that the land is on bedrock and will not sustain a septic system. Taxes are now due again. Do I keep paying taxes on worthless land? I wrote to the town and asked advice and direction to no avail. Do I have any recourse?

Re: Unbuildable property

You can try to give the land to the town by quitclaim deed. If they refuse it you can always just stop paying the tax and let them take the property for back taxes.
