Divorce and Residency
I have a friend who would like to get a divorce and they have their 10 year unconditional residence card, but wonders if this will effect their status.

The condition for marriage to a US Citizen is only 2 years. If he received his legal residence the fact that his card expires in 10 years does not mean that his legal residence expires. He only has to renew it to receive a new card. He can get a divorce which will not affect his legal status.
What he should be considering is becoming a US Citizen to avoid all of these problems.
