Expunge Minor Pot Offense In Illinois

Hi,

In 1983, I received court supervision along with a six month probation for possession of less than 2.5 grams of cannabis in the state of Illinois. I was given six month probation and had to pay a small fine. After completing the probation, the case gets dismissed. I did successfully complet the probation and the case got dismissed. A few years ago I had a friend look on the national crime database (NCIC-I think) to see if my name and the offense are on the list, which they are. I currently live in Virginia, and would like to have the offense exponged. My question is: How do I go about getting the offense exponged and, would I be required to travel to Illinois to complete and/or initiate the expongement process?

Thank you.

Re: Expunge Minor Pot Offense In Illinois

If the conviction had occurred in Virginia, you would not be able to get it expunged. Illinois, however, may have different rules for which you should consult an appropriately knowledgeable Illinois criminal defense counsel who should be able to advise you reliably on this particular matter.
