Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Virginia

motion for continuance

I received papers to appear in court three weeks from now, and I have no attorney. I filed a motion of continuance with the reason being ''am unable to make it to the court date due to short notice and no attorney please reschedule'' and it was denied as my reason was not good enough. Is there anything else I can do to get the date pushed back so that I can have time to prepare?

Re: motion for continuance

You can attempt to hire an attorney between now and the date scheduled for the hearing and the lawyer can file a motion for a continuance. However, if you are unable to retain counsel by that date, then you should appear in person on the day of the hearing before the judge presiding over the matter and reiterate your request for the continuance for the reasons already mentioned.
