Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Virginia
Adding new wife to deed
I'm considering filing business & personal bankruptcy in VA. I was recently married overseas and my wife joined me here at the end of last year and is still waiting for a social security number, making it impossible to add her to my bank accounts, insurance, etc. When she gets the number and has official I.D.s, can I still add her to the deed of my condo, creating a tenancy in the entirety, or will doing so cause problems?

Re: Adding new wife to deed
Conveying property in this manner is doable, but creates a fraudulent transfer that can be undone by the trustee, and if done with fraudulent intent (to protect the asset from creditors), can result in denial of discharge. See a competent bankruptcy lawyer IMMEDIATELY (do not wait, as the new anti-debtor bankruptcy law kicks in on 10/17).
