bankruptcy trustee pro se
Is there a way to check out the trustee in my area to see if he/ she has a habit of taking tax refunds?

It's not a question of habit. If you have a $6000 tax refund, the trustee will administer it. By the way, DO NOT try to file bankruptcy pro se. There is no way that asking questions to a bulletin board will give you enough knowledge and experience to do it right, and mistakes can be very costly.
