Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Virginia

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

I live in Virginia and I filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in May of 2002 when I was single. Due to unforseen circumstances my now husband and I are in need to file again. I want to know the laws on this. Does it make a difference that I was single before and married now? How often can I file?

Re: Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

You can file Chapter 13 now and get a discharge, but you will have to wait 8 years from filing to file a new Chapter 7. Your marital status does not matter. We practice bankruptcy law throughout Virginia and would be pleased to discuss your options with you.
