Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Virginia

Can I file without seeking council?

I was wondering how to go about filing for bankruptcy without seeking council. I am a divorced mother of two girls, severly in debt, living on SSDI. I do not have the money to hire an attorney and wish to do all the work myself. I do have a PC at home.I am approximately 10K in debt and will probably have to file Chapter 7 due to the fact that I don't foresee being able to pay these debts any time soon. Thank You for your help!

Re: Can I file without seeking council?

Legally, you can. Practically, I would strongly advise against it. Bankruptcy law is quite complicated, despite what seem to be simple forms, and it is very risky to do it yourself. You could be denied a discharge and even face criminal prosecution for what may seem like minor mistakes. If you can't afford a lawyer, contact legal aid.
