Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Virginia
am I responsible
I co-signed on a credit card with an ex-boyfriend for a diamond ring. He paid one-half of the credit card and then filed bankruptcy (including that credit card). Both of us are summond to court on this dept. Question: If he filed bankrupcy...am I responsible...and if he did file bankrupcy why are they taking HIM to court?

Yes you are responsible for all the unpaid debt. Assuming your ex filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy, it's not clear why he is being taken to court, unless the creditor moving through the bankruptcy court for some reason. There would be nothing stopping the creditor from pursuing you, but your ex should be protected by the bankruptcy court. If the party bringing you to court is the vendor who sold the ring, perhaps they only want the ring back.
