binding contract??

in july of 2008, I signed a contract saying that I would pay the salon that I work at booth rent (which is 125 a week) for 2 years. I have worked there 6 months and decided to leave and seek other career opportunities.. I have heard that VA does not have a salon/stylist contract that is binding. Is this accurate? Am i responsible to pay the salon the booth rent being that I no longer perform services there?

Generally speaking, this would be binding, and you would be liable. The salon may have an obligation to mitigate its damages by finding another stylist to take your place, with any replacement stylist's booth rent (less the cost of getting a new stylist) to be offset against the claim against you.

It would be important to read the contract carefully to see exactly what it says.

I do not know why it would not be binding.

However, they cannot recover twice for the same thing. So if they find someone else who pays this booth rent, then they cannot also charge you, too. So you would not have to pay any more money once they find someone else to take your place (if the new person is paying as much or more).
