Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

Falsely submitted me to Collection Agency

What can I do about this??

Aldelphia Cable Company reported me to the collection agency for not returning their equipment. I did return their equipment and provided a copy of my receipt. They tried to charge me $299.00 and reported me to the credit Bureaus. This was their negligence for not keeping good records. They contacted the bureaus and had them to close the account as paid in full. My question to you is since there should not have been an account in the first place and there was no payment is there any way I can make them pay for causing damage to my reputation, disgracing me and causing doubt and distrust with financial institutions and others who view my credit report? I have repeatedly asked them to delete this info from all of the Bureaus without success.

Re: Falsely submitted me to Collection Agency

If you can establish that there was negligence in reporting you to the credit agency and that you have suffered damage to your credit as a result, you may be entitled to recover damages. I suggest you speak with an attorney as to how to proceed in this matter.
