Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

I am a female programmer and I would like to do some freelance work online. I have been told by other female freelancers that there are a lot of sexist people out there and it's safest to use a male pseudonym. I would like to do so, but what about signing contracts? Is it acceptable to sign a contract with my male pseudonym instead of my real name?

Contracts are legal documents and such documents are not normally

signed by parties employing pseudonyms.

Consequently, my answer must be, no, it would not

be acceptable.

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. For a contract to be enforceable, it needs to be signed the the real parties, not someone operating under an assumed and undisclosed male pseudonym. For example, if you needed to collect under the contract, you'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
