Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

What kind of Contractual Agreement Should I Use

I have a home-based wedding consulting business. Not only does my business involve wedding coordination, but it also involves personal services such as makeup artistry, facials, etc. In setting up my contracts for service agreements, is it better to have several different contracts for the unique services of the business, or is it ok to have a general contract that has specifications about the different services. For example, for some weddings, I only service the client in a makeup artist capacity. For some, only in the consulting capacity and for the rest in both. What is the best way to protect myself? Do you have any examples?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Re: What kind of Contractual Agreement Should I Use

It is fine to have a general contract that allows for certain service specifics that differ from client to client, as long as the standard terms and conditions that you use fit all of the different configurations. I have put together many agreements like this for clients. Give me a call at 804-935-8579 if I can be of help.

Re: What kind of Contractual Agreement Should I Use

The only concern that I can tell from what little

you have described is that your contracts should

be very clear and avoid all confusion. If any

client can say that they were confused about

what they were supposed to pay for, then they

might only be responsible for the part that

(they say) was clear and they might not be

legally responsible for the additional services

that are not very clear.

You should probably have a contract that clearly

spells out each and every service and allows the parties to separately initial to choose each

service, so it will be very clear if a client

is saying yes or no to each and every possible

service. That way there will be no confusion

about what is included and what is not included for the agreed price. And clearly state the price next to each separate service so that it

will be very clear if they are choosing an

additional service that it costs additional

money.
