I live in the state of Virginia and believe the general contractor I have hired to finish my basement has abandoned the job before its completion. What are my options?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Contractors are usually licensed by your state's contractor licensing board. That's where they get their license number from and they're usually required to post a "performance bond" to ensure they don't abandon a job. You can do two things. First, file a complaint with the contractors licensing board. Second, file a claim for the performance bond with the insurance company that issued the bond. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
