How to make an LLC or corporation

I run a paintball league that I personally do not profit from. The fields that I host the games on receive profits. I would like to be able to generate some income of my own possibly next year. I run the league on six Virginia fields this year and plan on holding a couple in Maryland next year. I already have established the business enough to have it on file with the city I live in and a business checking account has been set up. I also have a Tax ID number from the IRS. How do I go about setting up my business to be ''legitimate'', such as an LLC or a corporation? Also, how do I know which is better for my particular business?

I would need to know a little more about how the arrangement is set up with the fields and your involvement in the leagues.
