Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia
Can neighbors have a business closed
My husband & his father own an automotive repair shop/junk yard on their property. The adjoining property is owned by his property and is about to enter foreclosure. Will the new property owners have any legal rights or means to shut down the business and end their source of income?

Re: Can neighbors have a business closed
It is a possibility. If the business fully complies with all business requirements and zoning, etc., then they cannot shut it down. But if the neighbors can find any legal problem at all, then the fact that they are neighbors would give them "standing" to complain.
The real question is not the neighbors per se, but making sure that the business is fully 100% in compliance with every rule, zoning law, etc.
Obviously, the best thing to do is to make sure it does not go into foreclosure. I do know a client of mine who buys property on the verge of foreclosure, sometimes with a plan to fix up the property and sell it at a joint profit, or other plans.
