What is the consequences if I back out of a signed sales contract?

Absent some permissable cause,backing out of a contract may be a breach. The consequences may or may not be spelled out in the language of the contract. More information is needed to give you a full answer.

While from the situation you have described there would be a "breach" of contract, it is impossible to fully address your concerns without knowing the terms of the contract, and your position (buyer or seller).
