Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

signed contract validity or consequences on false terms

I am an international student. Just finished my master. I am an OPT holder. I signed a contract with his consultancy company which promises job opportunities for OPT holders after a training session in the form of projects which could last 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. The contract is written in such as way that I am borrowing money from this company. Two huge amounts of money around $7000 and $30,000 for lost profits respectively if I leave the company before or after getting the first project. The contract says that after two years, the contract ends. The problem is that the whole thing is a scam. They do not tell you the whole story and many days after signing the contract, I started to realize how things actually are. The company portraits international students as having five years of experience with fakes resumes, references and expect us to do fake interviews until we get a job so that they can get money from us per hour. According to the contract I signed, which they do not give you a copy, if I leave now there would be a default judgment against me for borrowing money, which I never did. Is there a way to defend against this contract? and what would happen if I did not pay them? jail? credit history?

Thank you for your help

Re: signed contract validity or consequences on false terms

Congratulations on finishing your Master's. However, you are more educated than you are smart. Take $30,000 contracts to a lawyer before signing them and always keep a copy. Maybe there is yet something a lawyer can do to help you. Call one in your locality.
