Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

I own a small business and I was contracted to do crane work in May. They signed a ticket after work was completed. Now the company won't return my calls or pay their bills which total $2300.00. I have copies of a previous check so I have their banking information. What recourse do I have to get this money? I know they were paid by the other company already for the work I did. I live in VA and the clients companie main office is in Ohio but work was done in Virginia.

As a Franchise Attorney I can say the following. Most likely your only recourse is to sue them in small claims court, get a judgment, then hopefully collect on the judgment. Next time, collect at least half of the projected cost up front, then collect the other half when you begin the job. That way this won't happen again. Also, use a contract that has an attorneys fee clause. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
