Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia
unauthorized paycheck deduction
My husband and a fellow truck team
member hit a client's gate this
summer and my husband, who was
not driving the truck, repaired it for
the client. Now, 3 months later, his
boss wants my husband to pay for
the gate. No one reimbursed my
husband for the repair and when he
objected to the deduction, his
employer withheld half the cost of
the repair from his paycheck without
discussing it or notifying him. Is this
legal?

Re: unauthorized paycheck deduction
No, very probably not, but if your husband were to sue his employer for the recovery of these funds, he would likely find himself looking for another job.
