Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia
In VA, if I signed paperwork at a dealership, and there is another person on the paperwork as well (buyer & co-buyer), am I required to have the co-buyer there in order to get a copy of the paperwork?
Here are the details. I purchased a vehicle via a check from my home equity line. The vehicle was placed in my name and a friend's name. My friend was to be paying me back for the vehicle. Well, to date my friend is 8 payments behind. I recently found out that my friend had the vehicle retitled at dmv (even though I never signed the title over, so probably just signed my name). DMV can see that the vehicle was titled in both of our names at one time, and I want to provide them copies of the documents from the dealership to assist in the investigation. The dealership is giving me a hard time about getting copies of the documents because it has both of our names on it. Aren't I entitled to receive copies of those documents because they have my signature.

Of course; you're an owner of this vehicle every bit as much as your co-owner
and are entitled to whatever documents reflect this ownership status.
