Are verbal contracts binding in virginia ?

Yes, indeed they are (if they can be proven)and have a three year statute of limitations. (See Va. Code Sec. 8.01-246.)

Yes, except for certain types of contracts that have to be in writing (to convey an interest in land, to assume the debt of another, contract that necessarily lasts over one year, etc.).
