Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia
My wife rents a storage unit from a local company. The original contract states no late charges will be accessed until the 6th of each month. February's payment was sent & delivered on Jan.23. The storage company had placed their mail on hold, but didn't process the payment until Feb.8th and then placed a late fee on the account on Feb. 12th. The late fee being placed on account has been a recurring issue. The fact that the storage management fails to process the payment before the 5th is not our problem and we should not be penalized for late payment. This would be considered over billing and a form of theft. Does it become a crime when a stamp is placed on the envelope?

No, what's been described is not a crime but at most a civil matter
on the part of the storage company (in my opinion).
