Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

My 19 yr. old son was charged with possession of alcohol under the age of 21. He and a 18 yr. old friend were drinking beer in a park at 12:30 at night. They went to court today and the 18 yr. old was given null process, but my son was given him court date in a couple of months. They were in my sons truck, beer in a cooler in the back, but they weren't in the vehicle. The 18 yr. old had a suspended licenses already so he couldn't drive at that time. What does null process mean?

Case dismissed (nolle prossed ) against your son's 18 year old friend; not dismissed against your son since apparently he was the registered owner of the truck with the illegal booze.
