Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

My boyfriend and I lived together ON LEASE from Nov. 2011-Nov 2012. We had been having problems and i told him to leave (shortly after tne lease was over). He at the time packed his vehicle, and said anything left, I or my father ( the landlord) are to keep. We both have proof he said this. Now, 2 months later, he sayshe wants it all back. He also not once paid rent, there is proof because my father took his personal money in bank to pay it, plus my father paid my exes celphone bill with his credit card, as well as car insurance. What do I or my father do?

The better course would be for your father as the landlord to

simply return your (former?)boyfriend's personal property to him

rather than treating these items as gifts to you and your father (in my opinion).

If your father has monetary claims against this individual for the expenses/expenditures, you've mentioned, he has recourse to pursue them in your local general district court.
