Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
My boyfriends father did not give him his mail from child support and he did not know that he had an up coming court hearing. So like 2 months after he was suppose to have been in court they arrested him for contempt of court. He now has a state appointed lawyer. My question is what is his chances of being released when he goes to court to find out if he is being released or if he has to serve more time? He will already have been in jail for over a month when he goes to his court hearing.

No, assuming he has no prior convictions for offenses involving child support
matters, the judge will likely give your boyfirend "time served" for any jail time
that otherwise might have been imposed in this case (in my opinion).
