Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

I bought a used car. The dealer had to do a state inspection and brakes service. I called and went to the dealership several times. The dealer called me on Thursday to pick the car up I was not able to go by there until Friday morning. I later found out that they sold the car to another buyer. They told me they would throw away my contract and there is nothing else they can do. As a customer what rights do I have and do I have a legal case?
