Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
Confused!
I reside in VA, I am in the state of a divorce from my husband right now...We have NO CHILDREN. I am filing for divorce in December of this year. However I am going back home (to my country) next year in the beginning of Feburary 2004. My parents want me to get married to another person when i am there. Is that possible, that I get married in that country, and then come here and get married in the courts? Will it create any problems? Very confused. What is the best way to handle this situation?

Why not finish what you've started? You should be able to petition the court for a quick divorce. Ask your lawyer to get this sorted out for you.
File a joint petition for divorce NOW, and have your husband sign the petition. Then, ask that the judgment be entered on Janauary 1, 2004. That gives you the three months many court require, you'll still be married until then, and you can have a float to ensure that the judgment goes through before February.
You can't have it both ways, but in many countries, you're not officially married until you register the marriage.
If you're a citizen of this country and/or trying to come back here to live, however, I wouldn't try it.
