Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

Denied Access to a Lawyer while Incarcerated

Hello,

My husband was recently arrested on supposed back child support charges due from a previous relationship, and has been incarcerated for 12 days now.

(He has been continually denied access to a court appointed attorney, and he has asked many times now since being arrested to speak to one, or to have one appointed to him.)

Are his constitutional rights being violated?

Re: Denied Access to a Lawyer while Incarcerated

Hard to say, but it's probably time for your husband to send a letter to the chief judge of whatever court is responsible for his case with a request that he be quickly appointed an attorney by this court if in fact he is found to be eligible for court-appointed counsel in this particular matter.
