Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

I dog sat for a week and the lady told me her dog did not bite. The first day we had her she was nothing but vicious and continued to be vicious the whole week. She clawed my 4 year old nephew when he tried to give her a treat, bit my nail off and a piece of my skin when i went to put her leash on her to take her outside and growled showing her teeth to anyone who got near her or even walked past her. The day the lady was supposed to come pick up the dog was the day she clawed my nephews hand and then she took off out the back door. We searched all day for her and all that weekend and finally got a call from animal control saying they found the dog. The lady who owns the dog gave me a paper of her vet fees and i said i could pay her but not until after my wedding, she said ok and then turned around and sent court papers to me. Do i have a case here against her or do i just pay the vet fees now that my wedding is over with?

Vet fees for what? Counterclaim against this ingrate for any reasonable

damages that can be credibly concocted.
