Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

My employer has changed ou vacation, sick, and personal days policy. We were notified on April 29 of the change that was to take affect on 5/1/2014. With the new policy the 40 hours personal time I was given at the beginning of 2014 was not included in the new policy. Is this legal?

Hello--it all depends, now how's that for a lawyer answer . . The first place to look is the contract. Failing that, the employee handbook. One or both may bar midstream changes or require more notice. Labor unions organize to prevent or resist just such exploitations. But if race, gender, age or some other illicit criterion seems to be behind the employer's action, there may be a claim under a federal civil rights statute. Write me with any such details, if you like, and we can see if a real consult is advisable. Good luck. --Steve Pershing.
