Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

Housing Market

My house is on the market for rent. A women came to rent it, fill up application, sign parts of the contract, gave checks for the deposit, the background check up and the 10days she was going to live in.

She wants to move in at the end of the week (which is ok with us).

We will have to stay at a friend’s house for the 10 day before the end of the month when we get our other home. We take days off to move right away as requested, we get a storage facility and a rental truck.

In the mid time, my realtor is getting the pieces missing to finalize the contract. The women supposed to rent our place never return any calls or says she will send the information right away.

It is not 1 week where I live with no furniture in my house because everything is in the storage and I need to look for another renter. The women does not return any of the phone calls myself or my realtor give her.

Can she be financially responsible for the storage cost, the truck rental, the days off we had to take to accommodate her request to move right away? She never sign a complete contract but only a partial one.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Re: Housing Market

Your question is muddled and the relevant facts are not clear. If the would be renter gave you a check for the deposit and then failed to follow through with the rental , she would forfeit her deposit.

Beyond the forfeit of her deposit, it would be difficultt to say what you might hold her liable for until further facts are clarified.
