Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
In Oct 2010 I pled guilty to 5th degree assault in Minnesota. When my ex called the police cause I gave my son a spanking. Per Minnesota statutes 609.2242 I am able to carry and buy a firearm. I haven't committed any other crimes ever. I have moved to Virginia. My question is does the Lautenbury gun ban apply? Am I not allowed to buy a gun or own one at that?

If your conviction of the referenced offense in Minnesota involves domestic
violence, then (in my opinion) you are likely barred from owning or
possessing firearms in the Commonwealth.
