Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
racial discrimination
I recieved $500.00 for a good performance evaluation but my co-worker recieved $1400.00 even though he had disciplinary actions and write-ups and suspensions . I filed a claim with EEOC and my employer admitted that it slip through the cracks . I have a supervisor who will testify that they change my evaluation on purpose. Now that they have started to correct and prevent this from happening again, they asked me to closed my claim. Company policy states you notify your immediate supervisor in regards to this action. I notified my supervisor and Plant manager who told me that the decision came from upper management and both told me that they were glad about my evaluation because they thought at some point they would be firing me.Meanwhile, I was having problems with this employee,as far as supervisors and managers would not say anything to him for the things he did. I asked for conpensatory damages and punitive damages for emotional stress, inconveniece, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life due to worrying whether or not my job was in jeopardy since I just recently had triplets. Do you think I should pursue this any further or let it go like they asked me to ? The year before that someone hung a noose in our plant and nothing.

Re: racial discrimination
Unless you received a so-called "right to sue letter" from the EEOC, you would not be able to proceed further with your claim of discrimination in federal court.
