Stolen car??

I have a cargo van still has not been paid off yet but register under my name. I sold the car to someone I know for $9500 but he only paid me $5000. So I asked him to bring back my car since he is not going to pay me back the remaining. He told me he would bring it back but he hasn't. I called but couldn't get a hold of him. I am still making payments on my car which I don't even have possession of and it's registered under my name and paying taxes. What can I do to stop all this? Please help!

File a warrant in detinue in the general district court against this loan defaulter for the return of your property(the van),and, in the alternative, request a judgment against him for whatever remains unpaid on the vehicle loan plus costs.
