Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

supoena witness's rights

i have been summoned to be a wtiness. I do not know the defendent summoning me nor do i really know the prosecutor anymore. I received the summon Monday 3 at 2:45 and had to contact the lawyer because i didnt know them. This caused me to miss an important class. He hounded me about info i did not know and had me on speaker phone when i was not told. I realized it by the third phone call and they said nothing when i mentioned and got upset. I have major classes thursday and friday am when i am suppose to be at the court and have major classes that cannot be missed. I have really nothing to do with the case and feel that my rights have been violated by this lawyer. I also work for the city and the prosecutors dad works at the university i attend as a professor and i feel this could effect my role there. I do not feel comfortable being up on the stand. I am not sure what the defendent is capable of since i do not know him and would prefer not being seen in court. Like i stated i also work for they city where all this people will be at. What can i do?

Re: supoena witness's rights

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about the subpoena, unless it was not properly served or you can somehow be released as a witness due to your other obligations. You may want to talk to the Clerk of Court and the attorneys about it. If you feel your rights have been violated, you should consult a lawyer about any relief that may or may not be available to you. Good luck.
