Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
Towing without a title?
I was recently in a car accident and the car was damaged beyond repair (or beyond as far as my cash could go). The tow company towed the car to my home and there it sat for 3 weeks before I bought another car. I called a tow company to have the car removed b/c my apartment complex will not allow cars to sit in the parking lot when you can't even drive it. So I called the tow company to have it removed and taken to the junk yard b/c they said they will do it for free. I don't have the title for the car, but signed papers allowing them to take the car out of my possesion. Is there anything I should consider seeing that I didn't have the title (lord knows where the title is). I didn't want the car anymore so I allowed them to come and pick it up, and they asked for a copy of the title so i just provided them a copy of the registration and informed them that if I find he title then I would mail it to them. Do they need the title? I don't want them to come back to me trying to charge me for the tow because they couldn't obtain the title with DMV. The vechile was registed and insured in my name. Any suggestions would help out alot.

Re: Towing without a title?
You could always get a duplicate title for the vehicle from the DMV but I doubt that that would really be necessary. From your perspective, the main thing would be to ensure that the plates have been removed from the supposedly to be-junked vehicle and the registration cancelled with DMV.
