Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
Voluntary vehicle repossession with no paperworks
I know someone who purchased a van, with his son as a cosingee, to be used for business. They cannot afford the monthly payment anymore so they voluntarily gave up the car by driving it to the lot. They didn't sign any papers, just left the car in the lot thinking that would be enough. Now, they got a letter asking them to pay the amount of almost $14K. What can they do to somehow lessen the amount to be paid since they don't have the car in their possession?

Negotiate with the person or entity which now holds the vehicle note (which very likely is someone or something other than the owner of the lot where the vehicle was dropped).
