Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia
warrant in debt
I backed out of a contract to purchase a house. A settlement was reached between seller and me. Now the real estate agency for the seller has served me with a warrant in debt to collect on commission that would have be earned. Is this legal? Why are they going after the seller since she recieved payment. By the way, the house has been sold. Can the real estate agency collect commision twice for the same property?

Re: warrant in debt
Unless you had a contract with the sellers' agent, you should not be liable to the agent. But be careful, as the contract for sale could have had a provision about agents' commissions, so be sure to read it carefully.
